David Israel is the Director of Educational Innovation and Commercial Development reporting to the Provost. In his role at the University of Melbourne he helps drive the strategy, development and implementation of the University’s online education programs, its campus based elearning, and its endeavours to extend its reach through partnerships in curriculum and content.
David has a diverse background across higher education, business and technology. During the 1980s David was involved in managing major institutional strategic change in the higher education sector, helping drive efficiencies through mergers, organisational restructuring and changes to the management and governance of universities. He then worked in commercialisation and internationalisation of education as Director of Continuing Education at the University of Adelaide. More recently, with UniQuest, the IP commercialisation company at the University of Queensland he held various roles including as Group Manager of Commercialisation. David has more than 15 years experience in IP and technology based start-ups and broader IP commercialisation and industry engagement. He has been involved in the creation of more than a dozen start-up companies and has also negotiated many licenses, R&D related deals and collaborations.
