September saw a number of high-profile appointments and departures across the financial services industry, with noteworthy additions to Suncorp, Bankwest, and CUA.
 

Australia

Bankwest has appointed Sinead Taylor to the position of Managing Director following the departure of Rowan Munchenberg.

Suncorp has formally appointed Steve Johnston to the position of Chief Executive. Johnston had served as acting CEO since the departure of Michael Cameron in May 2019. Following Johnston’s appointment, Suncorp is seeking a new Group Chief Financial Officer (his former role).

Credit Union Australia (CUA) has appointed Paul Lewis to the position of Chief Executive.

NAB has announced Ross McEwan will commence as Group Chief Executive and Managing Director in December, stepping down from his role as Chief Executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland on 31 October.

Citi Australia has appointed Samantha Elliott to the position of Head of Digital Sales & Marketing for Citi’s consumer bank.

AMP has appointed Anne-Marie Paterson to the position of Group Whistleblowing Officer.

The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) has appointed Melissa Birks as Head of Advocacy, following the departure of Ailsa Goodwin.

Sunsuper has appointed Bernard Reilly to the position of Chief Executive.

ClearView has appointed Orla Cowan to the position of Chief Risk Officer. ClearView has also appointed Greg Martin to the newly-created position of General Manager, Strategy.

The Police Bank has appointed Sharon Waterhouse to its board as Director. The bank also announced the resignation of Chair David Walton and the appointment of Michael Fuller to the board.

The Bank of Queensland (BOQ) has announced Interim Chief Executive Anthony Rose will depart the bank at the end of December, following a leadership transition to newly appointed Chief Executive George Frazis in September.

Westpac has announced the retirement of Chief Financial Officer Peter King in 2020.

New Zealand

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) of New Zealand has appointed Clare Bolingford to the newly created position of Director of Banking and Insurance and Sarah Vrede as Director of Capital Markets.
